1. Cromwell Cherry Farm

After getting plenty of rest in Wanaka,
it was finally time to properly start moving toward Dunedin.
But first things first —
food before sightseeing.
Or in our case… cherries before everything 🍒

📍 123 Ripponvale Road, Cromwell 9384
17 NZD per person, up to 1kg.
The cherries were massive.
Just holding a few filled up my entire palm.
They were insanely juicy and sweet too.

(Although… I ate around 40–50 cherries while picking them,
so we only ended up taking home about 700g 😂)
Right before leaving after paying,
we noticed there was also a sheep-feeding experience.
So naturally, we donated an entire basket of cherries to one sheep 🐑
Watching it chew and eat even the cherry pits
was weirdly fascinating.
2. Cromwell Fruit Shop
📍 489 State Highway 6, Kawarau Gorge Road, Cromwell 9384, New Zealand
Before heading toward Dunedin,
we stopped by a nearby Cromwell fruit shop to stock up on fruits we wanted to eat during the trip.
I still remember spending way too much money at supermarkets…

But honestly?
Since every accommodation had a fridge anyway,
if you find a cheap local fruit shop like this,
I highly recommend buying extra fruit there instead.
And somehow, no matter how much we bought,
we ended up eating all of it anyway 😂
3. From Cromwell to Omakau
📍 2 Harvey St, Omakau, New Zealand
Since we skipped breakfast earlier that morning,
we were getting pretty hungry by then,
so we stopped in Omakau for a light breakfast on the way.
Apparently, it’s a small town in Central Otago,
well known as a cycling destination.
We actually saw quite a few bicycles around town too.
(Used to be a mining town in the past.)
Neither my wife nor I were that hungry,
so we shared everything together.
Other than the sausage being slightly salty,
it was honestly such a satisfying breakfast.
The coffee was great,
the overall combination was balanced,
and it was perfect for a light morning meal.

Including the bread, coffee, and the breakfast plate in the photo,
we paid 45.68 NZD.
I think this was around the time
when we started realizing the weather was getting colder than expected.
The thin clothes we packed were slowly becoming… not enough 🥶
From Dunedin all the way to Te Anau,
I remember the weather being mostly cloudy rather than perfectly sunny.

Also, the bread we bought there for 10 NZD
ended up lasting surprisingly long throughout the trip.
It was perfect for avocado toast in the mornings.
4. Katiki Point — A Stop on the Way to Dunedin
The drive toward Dunedin feels a little different from other routes in New Zealand.
There isn’t much ocean scenery along the way,
so it can feel slightly repetitive at times.

But even then,
the landscapes were still beautiful enough that
I never really felt bored or sleepy while driving.
There were barely any cars on the road either.
Sometimes we’d even stop the car just to stare at cows for a bit…
and then continue driving again 😂
And since we came all the way to New Zealand,
we absolutely had to see sea lions.
So we enthusiastically made our way to Katiki Point.
📍 Otago Region 9482, New Zealand
From the entrance at Katiki Point,
after walking for around 10 minutes,
you suddenly start seeing sea lions sprawled out everywhere like in the photos.

I got way too excited 😂
We tried to stay about ten steps away from them,
because getting too close can stress them out.
They look calm and harmless while lying there,
but if you cross the line and get too close,
they can actually bite.
(Not that I wanted to find out…
but apparently some people still bother them 😢)
Seeing them in the wild felt so much more alive
than seeing animals in a zoo.
Watching them peacefully live in their natural habitat
made me genuinely happy too.
Even now, after our honeymoon is over,
thinking about all the animals we saw in New Zealand
still puts me in a good mood.
(Of course… traveling there with my wife made it even more special~)
Today’s post got a little longer than expected,
so the rest of the Dunedin story — including the accommodation —
will be in the next post!
That’s it for today 👋
