Finally arrived in Dunedin! Let’s enjoy it. : New Zealand Episode 7

1. A Quick Stop at Moeraki on the Way to Dunedin

After leaving Katiki Point,
we got back on the road once again.

Our next destination:

📍 Moeraki 9482

It’s a beach where, once you park and walk down,
you’ll suddenly see giant round boulders scattered across the shore.

Apparently, these rocks were formed at least 56 million years ago.

The ones near the ocean are still perfectly round,
while the ones farther up on the sand are cracked open little by little.

Naturally, I had to take photos pretending to hatch out of one
like Park Hyeokgeose 😂

The beach itself was insanely wide too,
so we spent some time just walking around and enjoying the scenery.

After driving for so long,
I was honestly getting a little tired,

but between seeing sea lions earlier
and now taking a peaceful walk along the beach,
my energy came right back.

Something I found out later though:

Apparently, there’s a fine if you damage the rocks.

I doubt me climbing on one would break it…
but still, be careful 🥲

Also, just like many beaches in New Zealand,
there were sea lions casually lying around everywhere.

And there were also some really strange-looking birds
with bright orange beaks wandering around too.

After exploring everything and heading back up,
there was even a giant brush station for cleaning sand off your shoes.

Oddly satisfying 😂

2. Our Airbnb Stay in Dunedin

Next up: finally checking into our accommodation in Dunedin.

From early morning,
our schedule had been ridiculously packed,

so at this point,
all we wanted in life was simple:

Eat + Sleep 😂

📍 660 George Street, Dunedin North, Dunedin 9016
AMROSS Motel

Finally… check-in time.

When the owner found out we were on our honeymoon,
they handed us a map of Dunedin
and spent ages explaining all the local spots to us.

The room condition was honestly excellent,
and considering the price, it felt like such a good deal.

It was around 150,000–160,000 KRW per night.

And every morning while we were out,
they even did our dishes for us 🥹

Seriously so thankful.

Anyway — once the sleeping situation was secured,
it was obviously time to eat.

So we immediately headed out to comfort our exhausted selves with food.

3. Emerson’s Brewery — One of Dunedin’s Famous Spots

At this point it was around 7:30 PM,
but somehow it was still completely bright outside.

New Zealand summer days are seriously so long.

📍 70 Anzac Avenue, Central Dunedin, Dunedin 9016, New Zealand

Emerson’s Brewery 🍺

There were way too many kinds of beer to choose from,
so thankfully they had sampler sets available.

We ordered two samplers.

(6 beers per sampler 🍻)

Looking at the menu,
we realized we could basically drink everything
except a few beers from the top section 😂

What was fun was that each glass came with a short explanation
about the flavor profile of the beer.

By the end of it,
we somehow figured out exactly what styles we each preferred.

(My wife and I had pretty similar tastes… except for malty and hoppy beers.)

The first dish we ordered was this smoky meat platter with purée and croquettes:

Smoked Beef Brisket with fennel & pork belly croquettes, red cabbage puree, Carolina mustard & pink pickles

Hmm… honestly?
It was just okay.

Not bad, but a little disappointing.

Maybe it was lacking a bit of that deep savory punch.

The second dish was:

Emerson’s Pilsner beer battered fish served with chips, slaw, lemon & tartare

And honestly…
fried food is always delicious.

Even while writing this, I want it again 😂

Maybe because we drank 12 glasses total,
or maybe because the exhaustion was finally catching up to us…

but we slowly started getting tipsy.

Before we knew it,
it was nearly 10 PM.

The brewery was closing,
so we slowly started walking back home.

There was this huge cathedral nearby,
but somehow we ignored it for all three days 😂

One amazing thing though:

AMROSS Hotel had Netflix.

So every night before sleeping,
we watched
Can This Love Be Translated?
in bed until we passed out.

And just like that,
we safely survived another day in Dunedin ✨
